Turkey Comic Relief Tour

The 2023 Humanitarian Tour in Turkey with Clowns Without Borders Sweden aimed at providing relief and support to people affected by the earthquakes in Turkey. Sabine Choucair, Riwa Houssami and Ramy Abi Khalil travelled to the earthquake zones to provide entertainment and emotional support to the affected communities.

The team toured for six days and performed more than 50 shows and parades, reaching a total of 8,300 Turkish and Arab communities.

We performed at different locations such as camps, community centers, and public spaces. The performances were designed to bring smiles, laughter, and joy to people who were dealing with the effects and the trauma of the earthquake.

Tour in the South of Turkey with SOS

A deadly earthquake hit the south of Turkey and north of Syria in February 2023. Thirteen months in, indications of significant reconstruction are nearly nonexistent. Instead, the damaged city is still being dismantled, leaving residents who remain facing an uncertain future. People are still living in tents (mostly the Syrian population) and most Turks live in drab, prefab metal structures resembling shipping containers, packed together in sprawling one-story box cities. This means that life has not gone back to normal; kids are going to school inside tents or containers, and everyone is living in the dust or the rubble. With our team in Turkey, SOS, and with the support of Clowns Without Borders UK, we decided to focus on the Hatay region, and offered 18 shows in different camps and “container” schools, reaching 2,000 people.
